Haven't had the pleasure of seeing your gallery yet, but yours is my
favorite of all the web sites that feature Mata Ortiz pottery (Emi
and I try to track them all for the "Mata Ortiz Calendar of
Events"). I always recommend your web site to anyone who hasn't seen
the pottery.

I recently visited an exhibit of Mexican Folk Art at the Dallas Museum of Art and was very impressed with the art of Juan Quezada. The Arbol de la vida was a story of enchantment and history and I was impacted by the beautiful sculpture. I'm now very interested in this type of art and will someday visit Mata Ortiz in the hopes of seeing some of the artists at work. This web page is beautiful and I will continue to visit it often. Thank you for the newsletters.

What a wonderful site!! The pottery is exquisite! Such detail and and eye for beauty. Your site was sent on an e-mail, though I don't remember asking for it. But I Will certainly watch for future e-mails from you. I am starting an Educational Products company for elementary schools in US and will be needing "culture kit" items representing present day Mexico, for use nationwide. We may be interested to offer these pots (less expensive ones...most schools are strapped for money!) as culture display items, if you have anyone interested in producing such items. The detail would not have to be the highest quality, or intricacy, but representative and inspirational for students who may be interested in trying their hand at clay in class. I would love to hear from you. Keep up the wonderful work by the gallery and artists! Reach me at:  Wilmington, DE USA or after June 2005 at our website:

I've heard many things about Mata Ortiz. I purchased my husband some posters of paintings 15 years ago for our 1st wedding anniversary that happened to be of Mata Ortiz pottery, much like the pieces I've viewed tonight. He will be visiting your town soon to learn more about the pottery and to begin teaching a class for University of San Diego on the subject. Such a coincidence. Philomena Romo

I'm fascinated by your website. I'm a student teacher at Rosa Parks Elementary School in Berkeley, California, looking for culturally-relevant ways to introduce my Kindergarten students, many of whom are Mexican Americans, to fine art. Do any of your artists ever come to the San Francisco Bay Area, and would they be interested in speaking with the youngsters and showing them their artwork? Thank you very much. Hello, I used to live in a small town called Colonia Juarez which is near Mata Ortiz and I always knew Mata Ortiz's pottery was the best. I feel very proud to see the beautiful work of people I visited so many times. I also saw some ollas from Juan Quezada and other people of Mata Ortiz here at the Phoenix Art Museum in the Mexican Folk Art exhibition. Great Web Site!!

Hey! I'm a Nuevo Casas Grandes Native, and I'm very proud of the art in Mata Ortiz. I met Mr. Juan Quezada when my friend Rogelio Orozco took me to his house. I think he is the finest artist in Mata Ortiz. I have a couple of pots of my own and I just want to say that they are nice and priceless. Congratulations Mr. Quezada !!! Gerardo Fernandez

 10.19.04

I just discovered this pottery in Las Cruces, NM while visiting my parents. We had the opportunity to meet Juan Quezada and some of the other artists of this gorgeous pottery. I am overwhelmed at the artistic quality of these beautiful items. I purchased one small piece because I was truly unfamiliar with it and usually decorate in a more traditional/colonial decor (I live in Pennsylvania). However, I hope to acquire more in the future now that I have become familiar with it. My mother owns several pieces by different artists and I am in awe, as to how they are so meticulously created. I will keep this web site in my favorites.

Thanks. Deb O'Connor

My husband and I are close friends with Pete Escobedo of Silver City, NM. His wife, Juanita, has allot of Mata Ortiz pieces. Their home is where we were introduced to this magnificent art! Originally, we were only able to afford 1 small piece by Felipe Andrew. Recently we were at an auction and were, gratefully, able to purchase quite a few more pieces. (I don't think most of the bidders knew of the unique history behind these pots.) We were very excited to get these pieces. None are Juan's, but his students are great artisans in their own right. Thank You.

Mrs. Garen L. Herd

The beauty and quality of Mata Ortiz artists delights me. We have a small pot by Elira Mara (if I read the etched name in the bottom of the pot correctly), and look forward to adding other artists to our collection. William Taylor Taos, NM

Hi!  Bev Coleman here, in Virginia.  I think that your website is BEYOND awesome.  What a great way to let my sister in Northern Virginia know about the PBS special on Juan Quezada tonight!  She just returned from New Mexico and has a great interest in this sort of thing.  Your On-line Gallery is the BEST that I have ever seen, and I have seen numerous ones.  I am so happy to receive the e-mails from your company and look very much forward to them.  I could only hope to have 1/2-as-nice a website as this one is.  Thanks so much for enriching my days with your on-line gallery.  bjcoleman2001
